when a child gets sick they have to go to a hospital far from their
families. And parents want to be with their child every second during
such a difficult time. In fact, many would trade places with them if
they could. For more than 30 years,
the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine has been helping children
with challenging medical needs, and their families, stay close
together during difficult times by providing a “home-away-from-home”.
Since 1983, our Maine Ronald McDonald Houses have comforted and cared
for over 12,000 sick children and their families.
This year, I am participating in
the RMHC of Maine Bangor/Brewer Bowl-A-Thon.
I ask you, my friends,
family, and co-workers to please join me in raising funds to keep
families and children close.
and support our
mission to keep families close to their critically ill children while
they receive medical treatment - because healing happens together.
In 2014, the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine supported over 2,224 children and families of Maine, New Hampshire and beyond through its core programs:
Ronald McDonald House® Bangor, Ronald McDonald House® Portland, and the Ronald McDonald Family Room®.
Children heal faster when families are able to stay together. At the
Ronald McDonald House, families find a welcoming smile from a friendly
home-cooked meal to enjoy after a long day at the hospital,
a good night’s sleep in a caring environment and a place where families
support each other through a most difficult time. The cost of a
family’s one night stay at the House is $75; however, families are asked to contribute only $10 per night towards their stay.
Last year, 7,750 nights were provided to over 700 families who called RMH Bangor and Portland home. Over 71% of those families could not afford the $10 per night fee due to mounting medical bills as their average stay was 11 nights. No family is turned away due to inability to pay, ever.
